Jonathan D. Madison is a Program Director for the National Science Foundation. Prior to NSF, Jonathan was a Principal R&D Scientist at Sandia National Laboratories (Albuquerque, NM), where he contributed to Sandia's mission for over a decade in the Center for Material, Physical and Chemical Sciences.

Jonathan’s research interests focused on solidification in a variety of metallic systems as well as experimental and computational techniques for the quantification of microstructure in 3D. His experimental techniques included mechanical serial-sectioning and x-ray tomography while his theoretical activities focused on kinetic Monte Carlo approaches. His work provided multi-scale characterization and models for material selection, failure analysis, process/vendor qualification and component design.

Madison earned his B.S. from Clark Atlanta University in Engineering Science with a concentration in Mechanical in 2003 and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Materials Science & Engineering from the University of Michigan in 2007 and 2010, respectively.
