School Board Engagement

Frontline engagement at local School Board meetings is a vital component of ACEI’s advocacy work. See below for a few policy points that are universally relevant to and impacted by local school board determinations and influence no matter which state you live.

• We advocate for equitable student disciplinary policies and implementations to promote greater educational achievement and to rupture the school to prison pipeline.

• We advocate for equitable funding and resource distribution throughout each and ever school district with a goal of ensuring students most in need, receive the appropriate support as they need it.

• We advocate for high-quality teachers which are more diverse than existing demographics and on par with the populations they serve to reduce mislabeling of Black and brown boys as having learning disabilities or disciplinary problems as reduced mislabeling has been shown to reduce drop out rates and increase achievement.
